English Carved Pine Artist's Lay Figure, first half 19th century, with fully articulated ball joints, incised facial features, and dressed in jockey apparel including leather riding boots, h. 38", w. 10", d. 6". Provenance: The Flatt Collection.


  • Condition: There is a 1" loss to the right rear shoulder, and a small loss to the tips of the second and third toes on the right foot. Light scuffs, nicks and abrasions (consistent with age and utilitarian use) and scattered chisel marks (innate to the carving) are also present on the figure. In overall good condition. Jockey clothing has wear, fading, thread pulls and accretions (dust).
