Queen Anne Walnut Chest, 18th century, the rectangular top banded and quarter-veneered and with a molded edge, above a case fitted with a central cupboard door flanked to either side by two short drawers, over three graduated long drawers, all with inlaid string banding, raised on bracket feet, h. 39", w. 34", d. 19". Provenance: The Estate of James C. Westerfield, Jackson, Mississippi.


  • Condition: In very good refinished and restored condition. The piece exhibits evidence of past restorations, shrinkage, normal minor wear, mars and indications of age and use. The case is tight and solid. The top exhibits shrinkage tears to the veneer over underlying lamination seams. The central door retains a functional key. The drawers are now fitted with green linen liners. The lowermost drawer has an area of bubbled veneer. Brasses are replaced. The feet may be later replacements.
