William and Mary-Style Walnut and Seaweed Marquetry Chest, 18th century and later, the rectangular top banded and with a central medallion and corner pieces of intricate seaweed marquetry, above a conforming case fitted with two short drawers over three graduated long drawers, all with like panels, the sides quarter-veneered and inlaid en suite, raised on later shaped bracket feet, h. 35", w. 39-1/2", d. 23-1/4". Provenance: The Estate of James C. Westerfield, Jackson, Mississippi.

  • Condition: In very good polished and restored condition. The piece exhibits some indications of past veneer and inlay repairs, most notably to the banding at the perimeter of the top. Normal shrinkage, wear and indications of age and use. Was previously fitted with drawer pulls. The holes from the wooden pulls have been filled and artfully masked. Tight and solid. The bracket feet are probably later replacements.
