About New Orleans Auction Galleries
With over 25 years of experience handling important fine art and antiques, New Orleans Auction Galleries is one of the nation’s leading regional auction companies. Houston businesswoman and philanthropist Susan D. Sarofim acquired the auction house in 2012. Located in the historic Arts District of New Orleans in a spectacular, newly renovated 40,000 square foot building, New Orleans Auction Galleries conducts 10 major sales each year.
New Orleans Auction Galleries has forged strong relationships with collectors worldwide. One of the landmark auctions was in May 2006 that featured the Martha Ann and Ray Samuel Collection of Southern art and achieved over $7 million in sales. A painting by Louisiana artist Marshall Joseph Smith, Jr. reached $555,000 and The "Cusworth Suite," a fine and rare eight-piece George II set of chairs, soared to $720,000. Most recently, New Orleans Auction Galleries offered "Le Bouquet d'Amour," a highly important Marc Chagall painting that realized $965,000 in March 2018. Also of note is a Chippendale carved and figured mahogany high chest-of-drawers that sold for $731,000 in March 2008.
