Seven Chinese Export Porcelain Plates in the "Rockefeller" Pattern, fourth quarter 18th century, decorated with various delicately rendered Mandarin center panels, with outside borders of alternating sepia and orange landscapes, framed in black scrollwork, against a gilt ground of scrollwork and an inner border of alternating orange landscapes and birds on plum branches set against a ground of black and orange diapering, the set comprised of four salad plates, dia. 9-1/4", and three soup plates, dia. 9-3/4". Provenance: The Estate of James C. Westerfield, Jackson, Mississippi.


  • Condition: Four of the plates with some stacking wear resulting in glaze loss on the inner orange border. One flat plate with several areas of rim restoration, probably hiding hairline cracks or rim flakes. One soup plate with restoration within one grisaille panel on the rim and an area of gilt loss to the edge. One soup plate with two under-rim flakes; another with a 1/4" old repair under the edge of the rim. Most with scattered wear to the outside gilt edge.
