.750 Silver Covered Punch Bowl and Ladle

  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. There is an oval patch, 3-1/2" by 2", where some sort of armorial or monogram has been removed. This is a professional repair, visible only on the outside by a "ghost" oval, though there is a non-related small dent just above and to the left of this repair, and a large network of moderately deep scratches below, running about 4". The current armorial is attached by pins on the opposite side and probably of later date; the lower half of the embossed armorial stands away from the body somewhat. Otherwise there are scattered small scuffs and dings consistent with age. The interior gilding is good, though somewhat oxidized. The ladle has some small pinpoint dents on the bowl, but is otherwise in generally good condition. The punchbowl is marked (on the basal edge) with 1) the Berlin bear with "k", the mark of primary assayer JCS Kessner, 1819-1854; 2) "C", the mark of secondary assayer JWD Friedrich, 1848-1854; and 3) "WILM", incuse, the maker's mark of H.W.L. Wilm. Marks excellent; additionally marked with an assayer's scrape ("tremolierstich"). The lid and ladle unmarked but apparently original.
