A Schweidnitz Majolica Jardiniere on Pedestal

ca. 1900, the standard decorated with The Three Graces, the base molded with griffins, with an impressed shield mark with an "M/K" and numerals.
h. 37-1/2", dia. 18-1/2"

Provenance: The Estate of Donald J. Hurst, Waterloo, Iowa.

  • Condition: **One half of the rim on the jardiniere bowl has been professionally restored with well-integrated overglazing to much of the bowl wall and well, and to one exterior swag. On the other side of the interior of the bowl, there is a hairline crack and notable crazing to glaze - some of which has opened into minute surface glaze cracks. Bowl well also has scuffs, scratches and accretions - all of which are to be expected with age and use. On the pedestal feet, one of the Grace's arms has been professionally restored. One dragon has a repair to its wing with a visible crack and loss around repair; another dragon is lacking its shoulder/wing; and there are small scattered losses and chips throughout the pedestal.
