After Bartolome Esteban Murillo

Spanish, 1617-1682

"The Little Fruit Seller", 1675-1700

oil on canvas
unsigned.
Presented in a period, elaborately carved giltwood frame decorated with faux marble specimen plaques; the top corners with candle shelves.
65-1/2" x 43-3/4", framed 83-1/4" x 60-1/2"

  • Provenance: Descended in the family of Rafael C. and Ethel Regan Goyeneche, Sr., Mexico City, Mexico; Havana, Cuba; and New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • Condition: **In overall good condition. Exhibits signs of past professional restoration: canvas has been relined and there are small areas of inpainting scattered throughout, notably to the right side of the fruit seller's face and neck and to the right side of the other child's face. Additional inpainted "touch-ups" to the lines and contours are scattered throughout. Canvas exhibits horizontal seam-line, some light craquelure, a few tiny flakes and surface soiling - all of which is to be expected with age, material and use. Frame has some minor scattered nicks, scratches and losses.
