Provenance: By family repute, purchased in Rome in 1840 for the "Bottomley" family, Mylton Hall, Yorkshire, England, thence by descent; Private collection, 1952.

Condition: **In generally very good restored condition. Canvas relined. Several campaigns of restoration evident. Scattered small areas of inpainting including touch-ups to the faces of both Madonna and Child. Difficult for UV light to completely penetrate the varnish layer. Whitish accretions along right edge, horizontal whitish surface scratches across Madonna's knees and thighs. Abrading along the edge. Drip-like accretion to bottom of the dress.
