American Aesthetic Movement Stained Cherry Parlor Suite

fourth quarter 19th century, comprised of a settee, h. 33", w. 58-3/4", d. 22-1/2", a pair of armchairs, h. 39", and a pair of sidechairs, h. 36-1/2", each with a crest rail with a carved masque, the stiles capped by carved children's heads.


Notes: Similar carved heads sit atop the stiles of a sidechair by George Schastey, New York, as well as dressing room furniture in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. In later years, Schastey also managed a factory making production furniture.
