American Aesthetic Movement Walnut Armchair, ca. 1875, the back joined to closed arms on owl-carved supports, with a board seat rail and turned legs, now upholstered in tufted Gothic-style damask, h. 35". Formerly fitted as a reclining armchair, according to a 1999 appraisal from Didier, Inc. The back of the crest rail signed "T Gody & Son", for Thomas Godey, Baltimore. Provenance: Didier, Inc., New Orleans, Louisiana, to current owner.


  • Condition: In overall good condition. The patterned upholstery showing little wear and no staining or snags. All button trim and nailheads present. The frame showing surface scratches around apron and small indentations to turned legs, all commensurate with use. The "owl" arm supports in complete good shape.
