American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers

18th century, possibly South Carolina, the top with an overhanging molded edge, the front fitted with a pair of side-by-side drawers over four graduated long drawers, raised on ogee bracket feet.

Provenance: Descended in the Family of John Gilman D'Arcy Paul, Baltimore, Maryland.


  • Condition: **In good "as found" condition, exhibiting normal shrinkage, mars and indications of age and use. The top shows some dings and stains. There is a small splice at one edge, about 1/2" x 3", and a shallow chip is near the splice.

    One small drawer is missing its bail pull. The drawer bottom has been replaced with old poplar. All other drawer sides and bottoms appear to be yellow pine.

    Brasses are replaced.

    The back exhibits a narrow replacement board near its center, and another board with a diagonal splice.
