American Classical Mahogany Cylinder Secretary, school of Joseph Barry, Philadelphia, the shaped upper section with three banks of drawers over a cylinder opening to reveal a fitted interior writing surface, the arched cupboard doors flanked by herms with bearded Turk's heads above tapering paneled and reeded columns on carved feet, the case on beehive feet, h. 56-1/4", w. 44-1/4", d. 23-1/4".
- Condition: In overall very good condition, nicely polished and exhibiting indications of minor past repairs of very good quality. The piece exhibits normal minor mars, abrasions and indications of age and use. Tight, solid and stable. The replaced inset marble at the top is about 1/2" too narrow. Three of the small brass drawer pulls on the upper drawers are loose. They are likely replaced. There is a filled vertical shrinkage crack on the side of the case. When pressed firmly, no movement along that crack was noted. The lower cupboard doors appear to be replacements of very high quality.
