American Classical Mahogany Tilt-Top Center Table, ca. 1825, Philadelphia, the top with pre-shaped figured mahogany veneer, extending to purpleheart lunettes and a rosewood band, raised on a vasiform pedestal with swags, and joined to a concave base on paw feet with foliate-carved brackets, h. 29", dia. 41-1/2", h. with top lifted, 53-1/4".

  • Condition: Good restored condition, with scattered professional veneer repairs. The top is recently French-polished. Old surface of base recently polished as well. The apron and base exhibit normal wear to the perimeter edges and a couple small veneer flakes. The screws that hold the top on the base are now replaced with modern screws which function, but are loose. The brass latch to secure the lowered top to the base is missing its little knob to release the hasp. A screwdriver will release it. When lowered, the top exhibits some warp/twist. Not apparent when the top is raised One carved bracket at the feet is a very good replacement (only discernable when turned over). The lower edge of one bracket has a loss at a lamination line.
