American Classical Mahogany Wash Stand

second quarter 19th century, Baltimore, the inset marble top set in a reeded gallery with scroll ends, the rear of the top with a raised platform, the frieze with a molded drawer flanked by foliate-carved panels, raised on tapering turned columns, joined to a concave base on bun feet.
h. 32-1/2", w. 25-1/2", d. 23"

  • Condition: **Old finish that was polished a number of years ago, now with normal mars, abrasions and wear consistent with age and use. A few minor professional veneer repairs.

The stationary shelf on the back of the top is original and correct. It is now loose. It was originally secured by screws from the back, and hides glue along its top back edge. There are a couple veneer flakes along the front edge of the shelf, the largest about 1/4" wide and 7/8" long.

Marble appears to be original with normal fleabites to the edge and dirt.

    The drawer opens freely.

The bottom shelf exhibits some shrinkage tears in the veneer.

NOTE: This piece sold in these galleries Feb. 4, 2013.
