American Classical Parcel-Gilt and Stenciled Mahogany Pier Table, second quarter 19th century, New York, the marble top with projecting ends and bow front over a conforming frieze retaining its period gilt stenciling, raised on tapering columns with giltwood capitals and bases, the shaped low shelf with a stenciled edge and backed by a mirror plate, on foliate-carved and reeded legs, h. 36-1/2", w. 42-1/4", d. 18-3/8".


  • Condition: In overall good condition, exhibiting normal indications of age, use and wear. The piece is tight and capable of serving its function. The marble top is replaced. The stenciling is in overall very good condition. The gilded lines exhibit some indications of inpainting. The gilding is renewed. The lower shelf exhibits some sun-bleaching, and some areas of darker finish at the perimeter edges, including three darker veneer repairs along the front edge, and darker color at the two outside edges. There are a couple veneer tears at the projection behind a column. The vertical edge of the right return exhibits veneer losses along its lower edge. Mirror with some occlusions.
