American Coin (.900) Silver Tea Caddy, second quarter 19th century, by William Forbes (1798-1888) for Ball,Tompkins & Black (fl. 1839-1851), New York, New York, of octagonal section, with molded rim and base, with broad chased scrolling foliate banding, the hinged, domed lid en suite with toupie finial, monogrammed "AA", h. 5-3/4", w. 5", d. 4", 17.76 t. oz.


  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. Two very small dings on the edge of one end panel, and a shallow bump hidden in the lower engraving on one corner panel. Otherwise in very good condition, with minimal wear and no breaks or repairs. Crisp engraving. Marked (on the underside) "Ball, Tompkins & Black / Successors to / Marquand & Co. / New York / W.F" flanked by eagles. Handsome lot.
