American Federal Cherry Tall Case Clock, first quarter 19th century, the swan's-neck pediment centered by a brass finial, the polychromed wooden dial flanked by turned columns, the waisted door with beaded edges and flanked by chamfered corners terminating in lamb's tongues, the base with a figured panel and shaped apron, raised on splay feet, the poplar back comprised of stacked horizontal boards, h. 106-1/4", w. 20", d. 10-1/2". Provenance: The personal collection of Don Didier, New Orleans, Louisiana.

  • Condition: In overall very good condition. The piece exhibits normal minor mars, abrasions, shrinkage and wear consistent with age and use. Probably an old refinish or vigorous cleaning and polishing. There may once have been rosettes affixed to the round ends of the swan's-neck pediment. Key, weight and pendulum are present. There is a chip to the corner of the left front foot. The bottom inch of that foot exhibits evidence of a splice of added wood.
