American Federal Painted Pine Corner Cabinet

first quarter 19th century, probably New Jersey, the ogee curved cornice molding above a reeded frieze and two glazed doors with eight panes each, the lower case with a pair of framed and paneled doors above a scalloped skirt.
h. 89", w. 52", d. 20-1/2"

Provenance: Descended in the John Dymond family of Plaquemines Parish and New Orleans.

  • Condition: **In good "as found" condition, retaining old red paint, now worn, scratched, rubbed and with mars and wear from age and use.

    Tight and functional.

The cornice has a splinter along its top edge, about 10" long. There is a small chip at the miter of one corner, with a gap at that joint. The return is missing from the other end of the cornice, the missing piece is about 4-1/2" long.

Holes and wear from hasps and pulls on both sets of doors. The glazed panels are a combination of old and replacement glass. Three doors are loose at the hinges.

The back appears to be later beadboard affixed with wire nails.
