American Late Classical Mahogany Butler's Chest

second quarter 19th century, school of Anthony Quervelle, Philadelphia, the projecting fold-out upper drawer opening to reveal a bare writing surface and small drawers with birdseye maple faces, over a lower section with a kneehole recess with a cupboard door, flanked by anthemion-carved arched panels, over a bank of three shallow drawers, raised on carved paw feet.

  • Condition: **The left side panel of the case has a repaired crack where the panel was once pushed in. A faint line shows. Very minor scuffs and dings from use. The interior felt writing surface is heavily worn. The interior drawers are missing three small knobs. Fine carving detail. Good, rich color and patina to the surface.
