1098

American Late Victorian Mahogany Bookcase of Classical Inspiration, fourth quarter 19th century, of tripartite form, the central glazed door flanked by reeded and foliate-carved pilasters and projecting ends, each fitted with a glazed door, raised on foliate- and shell-carved feet, the back stenciled "Mahogany 206" in the manner of R. J. Horner, h. 73-1/2", w. 78", d. 16-1/2".

  • Condition: In good original condition, retaining an old, lightly alligatored finish with normal mars, wear, abrasions and indications of age and use. The doors bind slightly. They may need minor adjustment (note the floors in our old building are not level). The interior back may have a later coat of clear finish. There is one veneer loss, on the bottom edge of one side, just behind the protruding door assembly. The loss is about 4" long, and 1" high at its tallest point.
