American Mid-Atlantic Coin Silver Coffeepot

second quarter 19th century, by Thomas Whartenby (ca. 1788-1862), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the pear-shaped body with serpentine panels decorated with chased roses in rococo cartouches, with acanthus-mounted "gooseneck" spout, acanthus-crested "S"-scroll handle, domed lid with figural bird finial and raised on four robust acanthus-crested pad feet.

  • Condition: **In overall good condition. Scattered surface scuffs, scrapes and dings commensurate with age and use. Two of the feet are slightly bent, with one sitting about 1/8" above the table surface, and one showing a slight, structurally insignificant crack on the underside. Some shrinkage cracks on the insulators, which are later (but not new) replacements. Marked (twice on the underside) "Whartenby". A handsome piece.
