American Neo-Grec Rosewood Armchair

ca. 1865-1870, school of Jelliff/Schrenkeisen, of small proportions, with a carved crest over an upholstered back, joined to closed arms, seat rail and distinctive trumpet legs, now upholstered after the period fashion in crimson brocade.

Notes: The present chair is part of a group of Renaissance Revival seating furniture generally attributed to either John Jelliff, Newark, New Jersey, or M. H. Schrenkeisen in the "Little Germany" of nearby New York City.


  • Condition: **In very good "as found" condition. The surface, which appears to be old or original, with scattered mars, abrasions and scuffs consistent with age and use.

    The legs, arms and chair back all appear tight.

    The upholstery is in good condition with some minor soiling.
