American Neo-Renaissance Mahogany Easel, late 19th century, the adjustable tray with carved laurel swags on a foliate-carved top bracket, the paneled stiles with leaf-carved finials and joined to feet with dolphin-carved brackets, h. 83", w. 26", d. 24".

  • Condition: In good "as found" condition. The piece retains its old, presumably original finish, with embedded dirt in the low points, and normal mars, scrapes and abrasions consistent with age and use. There is a missing carvbed leaf tip on the back rear of the left support. The adjustable tray mechanism functions as intended. There is a loss to the foliate-carved scroll tip on the back side of one stile finial. Just beneath that, there are two losses to the outside edge of foliate carving where the outer edge was laminated to the stile to lend the needed thickness (one is about 3/8" thick, the other thinner than that). There is also a loss to the very tip of one dolphin tail. The frame is tight at the glue joints.
