American Plum Pudding Mahogany Four-Post Tester Bed

attributed to C. Lee, third quarter 19th century, in the transitional Late Classical into Rococo Revival style, the paneled headboard with a shaped and carved crest, with cluster-column posts and an ogee-molded canopy.

  • Condition: **In very good refinished and restored condition. The piece exhibits normal minor blemishes, shrinkage, mars and indications of age and use.

    The fabric on the tester has been installed from the inside surfaces of the base of the tester frame. It was originally secured to the outer edges of the frame, leaving the old tack holes exposed at the bottom perimeter of the tester frame.

    There are veneer chips/losses along the top edge of both side rails. The rails are secured to the posts by cast iron sliding mounts. It appears to be original.

    No molding losses noted.

    No "C. Lee" signature found on the pieces.
