American Renaissance Revival Rotary Cylinder Desk

third quarter 19th century, the carved crest over a cylinder with burlwood panels, opening to reveal a segmented interior and having a band of drawers below, raised on a pair of pedestal supports with convex doors, each with a burlwood panel and opening to reveal a fitted interior, flanked by turned columns, the rotary sections opening in a more compact manner than those on similar desks by Wooten.

  • Condition: **Crafted in walnut and burled walnut.

In overall very good refinished and restored condition, exhibiting some minor scuffs, normal shrinkage, wear and other indications of age and use.

The top surface exhibits a couple tight shrinkage cracks, with areas of wooden filler spliced into any gaps. The repair appears professionally rendered.

No notable veneer losses observed; there are a few small spots of filler.

    One interior drawer is replaced.

Tight, solid and stable. All doors and drawers move freely. Mechanism prevents one pedestal cylinder from opening if the top desk cylinder is not opened. Holes on rotary doors with fragmentary wood suggests this may be missing wooden pulls from each of the doors.

There is what appears to be a new tooled leather top on the interior writing surface.
