American Rococo Revival Bronze and Glass "Flying Cupid" Gasolier

mid-19th century, the body decorated with cornucopias of fruit and bunches of grapes, with like decoration on the arms, the standard decorated with patinated flying putti, beneath molded palm leaves.

Provenance: The Estate of Frank Fasullo, New Orleans, Louisiana.

Notes: The gasolier shares putti, palm leaves and other elements with a pair of sconces and gasolier in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and are illustrated in "19th century America Furniture and Decorative Arts", numbers 134 and 135.


  • Condition: **In overall good condition. There are two small soldered repairs - one to one arm at standard, the other to one leaf on corona. Putti have light pitting. All bronze elements exhibit some rubbing to patination, accretions and light oxidation - all of which is to be expected with age and use. The gasolier is electrified and in working order.
