American Rococo Revival Laminated Rosewood Recamier

mid-19th century, attributed to John Henry Belter, in the "Henry Clay" pattern, with a high wrap back with a fruit-, floral- and leaf-carved crest extending to a closed arm, with serpentine seat and cabriole legs, now upholstered in tufted brocade.
h. 38-3/8", w. 39-1/4", d. 22"

Provenance: The Estate of Donald J. Hurst, Waterloo, Iowa.

  • Condition: **Tight and sturdy with no movement observed in the legs or back.

The surface appears to be an old or original finish that has been polished. It exhibits normal shrinkage, minor mars and wear. There are some of the normal flakes to the edges of carved surfaces, most notably leaves at the top of the crest.

The upholstery is in very good, approaching excellent, condition.

The back side of the back exhibits an area with some tack holes from a previous upholstery job that went too high with the fabric.
