American Rococo Revival Rosewood Half-Tester Bed, Attributed to the New Orleans Warerooms of Prudent Mallard

ca. 1871, the tester with curved corners, joined to tapering posts with scroll-sawn brackets, the headboard with a carved cabochon over a panel, the wrap footboard with an arched top and shaped panel.

  • Condition: **In overall good condition. Exhibits normal mars, wear and abrasion consistent with age and use. It appears to have been vigorously cleaned some time ago.

    Tester upholstery in good condition.

    The upper section of the headposts are later restorations to return the tester to the correct height. There is a filled dowel hole on each post from where the lowered brackets were previously mounted.

    Normal mars, dents and dings to the tops of the side rails. The upper molding on one has a shallow splinter loss, about 3" long by 3/8" high and 3/8" deep.

    The footboard exhibits a loss to one of the scroll tips flanking its top rail, about 1" wide and 3/8" high. There is a loss to the molding at the lower section of one corner, about 3" long, and another about 1-1/2" long.
