Anglo-Indian Carved Ebony Jardiniere

third quarter 19th century, the bowl deeply carved with roses and pomegranates, trimmed with drops of alternating fruit and flowers, on a vasiform fluted pedestal carved with acanthus leaves, the base with scroll-carved feet, scrollwork, fruits and flowers.

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition, exhibiting fewer than normal chips or flakes to the edges of carved surfaces and no notable losses to the carving observed. It exhibits normal shrinkage and wear. Surfaces are dusty.

    The column is firmly affixed to the base. The "bowl" rests upon the pedestal column, and has sufficient weight to be functionally stable. There is some play at that joint if one vigorously shakes it.
