She attended the Art Student League and augmented her academic training by spending time with zoos and circuses studying the various animals. Huntington was the first woman elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1932, and was a member of the National Academy of Design and the National Sculpture Society. She and her husband bequeathed almost 800 acres to the state of Connecticut, which were to become the Collis P. Huntington State Park. Scattered throughout the acreage of the park are Huntington's large-scale sculptures of bears and wolves.
