Art Deco Marquetry- and Abalone-Inlaid and Parcel-Ebonized Calamander Cabinet

second quarter 20th century, the backboard with a shelf supported by ebonized brackets and centered by an inlaid panel, on a base with a central frieze drawer and three doors, each door with an inlaid panel.
h. 59", w. 74", d. 20-1/2"

Provenance: Maison Gallery, New York.

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition. It appears to have an old or original surface, with possible later polish. The piece exhibits normal minor wear and indications of age and use.

The case is very sturdy and solid with absolutely no movement observed at the joints. The backboard is now secured with later steel bars on its verso.

No veneer losses observed. There are losses around two of the keyholes, presumably missing part of their escutcheon inserts. A third door has a brass escutcheon insert which is possibly replaced. Retains all locks and functional keys.

    Drawer and doors open freely.
