Attributed to Eliza Goodridge (American, 1798-1882), "Portrait of the Family Children", possibly related to the Foster/Stiles families, watercolor and gouache on ivory fixed to wood panel, unsigned, 10-3/4" x 7-5/8", framed, overall, 15-1/2" x 12-5/8". Provenance: Private collection, Covington, Louisiana. Illustrated: Phillips, Betty Lou. Villa Decor. Layton, UT: Gibbs Smith, 2000, p. 106.


  • Condition: Scattered areas of abrading. Vertical cracks in ivory from upper to lower edges with accompanying separation. Evidence of past restoration: ivory now affixed to wood panel support. Loss to paint surface upper left corner. Scattered pinprick-sized areas of darkening/accretions, especially in background and lighter colored areas. Some overall soiling. Pigments maintain color intensity. Not examined out of frame.
