Notes: In April 2003, Dr. Sandro Bellesi examined the painting from a transparency and black and white photograph, and stated in a written communication with Christie's, New York, that the work should be attributed to Marinari. Dr. Francesca Baldassari further confirmed Dr. Bellesi assessment in her correspondence dated July 14, 2003: "The [present] painting was probably an autograph by Onorio Marinari…the faces are very hard but I can still see the quality of Marinari in the laces and in the sleeve of 'Judith'. In 2011, a near identical depiction of "Judith and Holofernes", was offered at sale at Christie's, London, July 6, 2011, lot 208, and has been included and illustrated in Silvia Benassai's book on Marinari.
