Notes: A native of Lucca, Lucchesi attended the local art academy before accepting a professorship at Florence University. In 1958, he moved to New York where he taught at the National Academy of Design and the New School of Social Research. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship. Lucchesi's sculptures are conserved in the permanent collections of numerous institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institute's Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C., and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others.
