Notes: Charles H. Reinike was part of the gifted group of artists, writers and photographers that made up the French Quarter Renaissance during the mid-20th century. Born in New Orleans, Reinike had an appreciation for the landscape and ways of life in south Louisiana. To escape the heat of the summer in the city, Reinike and his wife Vera made trips to St. Mary and West Feliciana Parishes; eventually establishing a summer art school near St. Francisville. During their travels, he made small watercolor paintings of the bayous, cabins and scenes of rural life.
