Chase "Gaiety" Cocktail Shaker

designed in 1933 by Howard Frederick Reichenbach (1901-1959) for Chase Brass & Copper Co., Waterbury, Connecticut, chromed copper, of cylindrical form with black enamel bands, the cap lifting to reveal a detachable strainer.
h. 11-3/8", dia. 3-5/8"

Literature: Stephen Visakay, Vintage Bar Ware (Paducah, Kentucky: Collector Books, 1997), pp. 65-68 (illustrated).
Simon Khachadourian, The Cocktail Shaker (London: Philip Wilson, 2000), pp. 64-65 (illustrated).

Notes: The "Gaiety" had both its unique design and mechanism patented, and the result was a widely popular shaker which later came with several accessories and in a variety of colors. The present example, however, is the original and traditional black: one of the iconic cocktail shakers of the Art Deco era.
