Chinese Celadon-Glazed Double-Dragon Amphora

in the Tang style, but later, having an elegant baluster-form body with narrow neck encircled with three concentric bands, flanked by two slender dragon-form handles, the celadon glaze with gray hues, the lower body and base unglazed.
h. 16", w. 7"

  • Condition: **Examination under black light reveals restoration of 1/2 of the lip on one side, and about 1/2 the neck beneath it. On the other side, about 3/4 of the lip fluoresces. One handle shows a line of restoration where it meets the body and a small portion of the handle where it meets the "thumbprint" at the base of the handle, as well as about 1/3 of the edge of the thumbprint. Additionally, there is typical scattered crazing, and glaze loss to the tops of heads on the handles. There is the expected roughness to the base and some tiny chips around the edge.

NOTE: From a local private collection.
