Chinese Kesi Panel Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the large embroidery on gold silk, depicting a pair of warriors on horseback as they entertain the emperor, set in a palace garden surrounded by mountains, a troupe of musicians play as the seated emperor and his highest ranking officials watch from a shaded pavilion, unframed, h. 69", w. 33-1/2".


  • Condition: Wrinkling throughout. Figures have semi-pierced outlines. Some pulling at the top support bar. Bottom roller added later with one side plug missing; stitching is visible from the back, but not from the front of the textile scroll. Some discoloration and fading throughout. Scattered thread snags and pulls. Some pigment running on figures' beards. A dark stain visible on the back of the textile, but not from the front. No large tears or patched areas. Wear and fragile nature of object are typical of age and display.
