Chinese Sancai Pottery Roof Tile, probably Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the reticulated circular tile depicting an immortal amidst swirling ruyi clouds, on a carved and pierced wooden stand, tile, h. 13-1/2", w. 10".


  • Condition: In overall good condition. Losses to green glaze on back from where it may have been affixed to a larger structure. Scattered firing anomalies including a couple of losses to the glaze and a few kiln cracks on the neck of the immortal. Some light abrasions and wear to surface. Color maintains intensity. Stand shows some scuffing and nicks, particularly on the feet. All wear is consistent with age, material and architectural use. No significant breaks or evidence of restoration.
