Continental Art Nouveau Pine, Iron and Glass Door

ca. 1900, the top set with glass panes protected with a cast iron grille, the center of the door carved with a lush swag of flowers held with bowknots.
h. 79-1/2", w. 39-1/4"

  • Condition: **In overall good condition. The door has been previously painted, now stripped and with a thin finish that appears to be wax. There are normal mars, dings and abrasions from use.

The door doesn't exhibit any apparent movement or looseness in its joints.

The iron grille has flaking paint and oxidation. There is also oxidation to the two horizontal hand holds.

Retains an old knob/latch, and is also fitted with a modern lock and newer hinges.

The panels behind the iron are fitted with plexiglass, NOT glass. One of the side panels is hinged to open independently of the full door, retaining an old latch to secure it.

There are losses to the carving at the bottom of the central ribbon.

The door is about 1-1/2" thick. With the protruding moldings, it is about 3-3/4" thick.
