Continental Mahogany and Marquetry Bureau a Cylindre

19th century, the rectangular top with a rope-inlaid banding and decorative lattice-patterned inlays, above a case fitted with a tambour roll-top opening to a pull-out leather-inset writing surface and a variety of drawers and cubbyholes, over a central drawer, flanked to either side by two short banded drawers, raised on tapering square legs ending in brass bun feet, the whole with decorative inlaid patterns and banding.
h. 46", w. 55-1/4", d. 32"

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition. The surface has been refinished and exhibits normal rubbing, mars, past veneer repairs and indications of age and use.

The case is solid with absolutely no movement detected at the intersection of the legs and case.

The tambour opens and closes freely, as do the drawers. The bronze escutcheon for the tambour is detached but present. All locks present. A present key does not work in most.

The tooled leather writing surface on the interior work surface is in near-new condition.

There are scattered veneer losses throughout. Some, but not all, of the detached pieces are present.
