Provenance: This bedroom suite was purchased in 1932 at the Bankruptcy Liquidation Sale of the Washingtonian Hotel by John W. Staggers. He was a prominent supreme court attorney and this set remained at his "Oaklands" family estate, outside of Baltimore. This unique bedroom suite was part of the furnishings of the Presidential Suite in the Washingtonian Hotel, located across from the White House. It is believed that president Abraham Lincoln lodged in this Presidential Suite during the civil war from time to time for security reasons. This suite had hence become known as Lincoln's "other bedroom suite". References: Washington Times and The Washington Post.

Notes: A very similar armoire to this bed is illustrated in Furniture in Maryland 1740-1940, by Gregory Weidman, page 260, plate 256.
