Dutch Mahogany and Marquetry Bureau Cylindre

early 19th century, the rectangular top above a roll top opening to an extended writing surface and various drawers and cubbyholes surrounding a central tambour cupboard, over a bombe-form base fitted with three long drawers, the whole richly accented with floral, foliate and masque marquetry patterns and raised on splayed feet.
h. 45", w. 48", d. 23"

Provenance: Successions of Lois Chalona Hawkins and H. Lloyd Hawkins, Jr., New Orleans, Louisiana.

  • Condition: **In "as found" condition. There is shrinkage throughout to the substructure causing the surface veneers to buckle and warp. There is a veneer chip to the front bottom right corner of the cylinder roll. The finish on top of writing surface is flaking - small minor losses to the inlay. Chips along the front lower edge.
