Dutch Mahogany and Marquetry Chest, fourth quarter 18th century, the top banded and with an elaborate scrolling foliate and floral marquetry inlay, and with a serpentine front, above a conforming case fitted with four graduated long drawers, the sides and drawers inlaid en suite, raised on block feet, h. 31", w. 35-1/2", d. 20-1/2".

  • Condition: Attractive piece with nice patina, exhibiting normal mars, abrasions, wear and evidence of past restoration. The top has an approximate 3" deep section of line-strung veneer along its back edge with different color than the rest of the top. It may be a later repair. Scattered veneer losses, repairs and bubbling/lifting of veneer throughout, the most notable losses being at the left edge of the lower drawer (visible in catalogue photo) and about a 4" diameter area near the bottom of one side. Generally, there are relatively few veneer losses on the top, somewhat fewer on the drawers, and more on the returns. The most notable lifted veneer is at the upper right corner of the second drawer. There are smaller areas of lifted veneer across the serpentine drawer faces. Drawers function properly.
