Dutch Neoclassical Mahogany and Marquetry Recamier, early 19th century, the padded back-scrolled end joined by a long padded seat to the lower scrolled end, the whole with inlaid marquetry scrolling foliate patterns, raised on acanthine-carved sabre legs ending in scrolled toes, h. 32", w. 24", l. 75".

  • Condition: In overall very good condition, exhibiting normal mars, abrasions, minor past restorations and wear consistent with age and use. The inlay is in unusually good condition. There are a few scattered tiny voids. The most notable loss is at the end of a leaf, about 15 mm long by about 2 or 3 mm wide. The silk upholstery is in very good to excellent condition. There is a bead on either side of the seat rails/apron continuing to the scroll ends. There are number of small dings and losses to this projecting edge, with more notable losses at the rounded top ends of the "arms" and a loss of about 5" length just beneath the top of one arm. Tight and solid. By oral tradition, this piece has a Henry Flagler provenance, the early partner in Standard Oil and the man who developed railroads and resorts in South Florida.
