Emile Galle (French 1846-1904), Deep Aubergine and Tan Wheel-Carved Cameo and Martele Glass "Vase de Tristesse", ca. 1900, with an oval reserve of two ravens, one raven holding a plaque engraved "Amour" surrounded by leafless tree branches, the ground with a martele surface, signed "Galle" near the lower edge, h. 4", dia. 3".

  • Condition: Rare lot. One of three petals around the neck exhibits small irregularities at the edge which appear to be typical of the the wheel carving/martele process (this petal is also a bit indented at the neck). The abbreviation of the inner feather tips of the lower tail are probably a result of the same carving process as well as scattered irregularities to the edges of the branches. There is a tiny loss across one branch (1/32") along with a nick or two scattered about the branches. A small slightly indented area near the base (1/8" dia.). The signature in the chinoiserie style. Provenance: Estate of Louis Tenenbaum, Houston, Texas.
