Empire Parcel-Gilt Mahogany Bibliotheque

mid-19th century, with a peaked crest and gilt-bronze mounts in the frieze, above a pair of glazed doors flanked by turned columns with bronze collars, the protruding base with a parquetry-inlaid desk, fitted with a single drawer and raised on tall carved giltwood paw feet.

  • Condition: **In overall good condition, exhibiting normal shrinkage, mars, abrasions and minor past restorations consistent with age and use.

    The base is sturdy and exhibits no movement in its legs or case joints.

    Locks are present; no key.

    There is a missing pane of glass from the side of the upper case.

    There are two missing rectangular inlaid brass panels from the corners of the cornice frieze, and one from a corner of the base drawer. There are several scattered losses to inlaid brass stringing, most notably to a couple door mullions and the top of the base. The stringing is lifted/loose on one mullion.

    The removable interior shelves are about 10-1/2" deep. The distance between the two shelves is about 12-3/4". The distance from the upper shelf to the door frame is about 15-1/2".
