English Mahogany Triple-Section Armoire

ca. 1825, the arched pediment flanked by a pair of taller sections, each with a molded cornice over a door, the central section with a bank of six drawers, the piece incorporating carefully selected figured "plum pudding" veneers, the back bearing a paper label, "From Taylor's Upholstery and Cabinet Warerooms, No. 12, High Ousegate, York."
h. 72", w. 82", d. 23"

  • Condition: **In very good refinished and restored condition, the surface now exhibiting nominal wear, with evidence of minor past veneer repairs, scuffs to the base, shrinkage and normal indications of age and use.

    Solid and stable.

    The drawers all slide freely.
The doors each exhibit a tight horizontal veneer tear, and a vertical shrinkage crack, now filled, about 9" long on one door and 14" long on the other. The interior of each door has an added frame, presumably to stabilize and keep from warping. There is a detached shelf support in one interior.

All locks are present. A small hook and eye latch has been discreetly added for one door.
