Exceptional Japanese Cloisonne Censer, Meiji period (1868-1912), probably late 1880-1890, probably Nagoya, the ovoid-form censer decorated with a finely rendered dragon against a deep green Kinseki ground, the reticulated lid with floral ornamentation and a chrysanthemum finial, and four gilt legs supporting the body, h. 4", dia. 4-1/2".


  • Condition: In overall very good condition with a few pinprick-sized surface anomalies on the underside from the enameling process. Light patination on finial, rim and feet. Very small possible old professional repairs on two of the four feet. Some craquelure and crazing on the interior of the censer. No breaks and all mentioned wear is consistent and expected with age and material.
